Wholesale energy has risen this week, mirroring
upward moves in gas markets as cold weather
forecasts, tighter generation margins and stronger fuel
prices filter through to near-term contracts.
Heightened global tensions tied to Iran’s internal
instability and uncertainty around Arctic geopolitics
involving Greenland, which have contributed to bouts
of volatility in oil and commodity markets.
While these factors have supported near-term price
gains, longer-dated power and gas curves remain
softer on expectations of more balanced
fundamentals later in the year.
